All parts of your vehicle will eventually need servicing from you. There are some parts that, however, seem to wear out faster than others. When these fast-wearing parts are connected to the efficiency of the vehicle, it is advisable to keep checking on their status at all times. The car transmission is one of the most crucial elements of the motor vehicle. The delicate system determines how efficiently your car runs, and when mishandled, it can lead to huge losses as you repair and replace the system. It is advisable to keep an eye out for these signs which usually indicate that you need to schedule a automatic transmission service.

When Transmission Liquid is Leaking

One of the earliest tell-tale signs that a transmission service has failed and needs replacement is leaking. When the transmission fluid leaks, the levels in the system go dangerously low. If this is left completely unchecked, it can completely damage your vehicle's engine. One easy way to tell that the fluid is leaking is the presence of a brownish liquid under the vehicle. Leaking means that there is a part of the transmission system which needs to be repaired. It is advisable to get a competent mechanic to check the bolts, gaskets and tubing to ensure that any part which is broken is repaired.

When You Have a Hard Time Shifting Gears

Another common indication that your vehicle's transmission has problems is when you try to shift gears and get a shaky feeling. Sometimes, it feels as if the entire vehicle is shuddering when you try to shift gears. An automatic transmission in good condition should provide a smooth ride. If the vehicle is jerking and making other shaking movement when you change gears, you need to see an auto-mechanic for a check-up.

Unusual Odours

Another common indication that your vehicle is having issues with the transmission and needs to be fixed is a strange smell which resembles that of burning rubber whenever your car is in motion. Note that this smell is distinctively different from the smell of engine oil, and comes from dirt in the transmission fluid.

Other tell-tale signs which indicate that your vehicle transmission might be in need of servicing include perennially low levels of fluid, problems getting into gear and transmission noise when it is in neutral. All these are signs of problems which can only be fixed by a competent auto mechanic.
