What is a charge air cooler?
A charge air cooler works much like a radiator. It cools the hot, pressurized air that's been forced into your engine by the supercharger. Without a cooler, this hot air from the supercharger would turn into exhaust gases before reaching the engine. The heat exchanger in a charge air cooler is made up of rows of tubes with fins attached to each end. Water flows through the tubes, absorbing heat from the high-pressure air and cooling it down before it reaches your engine. This increases the performance of your car by optimising conditions for the combustion of the fuel inside the engine.
What are the signs that you need to have the charge air cooler serviced?
The signs that you need to have the charge air cooler serviced include:
- Reduced horsepower and/or torque.
- Bad smell in the cabin of the car
